Hi, In response to Steve Clarks email On Saturday (1st September) a male Brown Songlark was displaying over the Jukes Rd grassland in Fawkner (northern suburb of Melbourne). Along with this, a male White winged triller was feeding on the abundant hairy caterpillars. Our incidental records at Merri Creek Management Committee for these two species usually come from mid October to early November although our visits to the larger grassland reserves these species are regular are not frequent enough to fix an average date for these species. In addition, Horsefields Bronze cuckoos have been calling from the Jukes Rd area since 12th August (a quick scan of our fauna book shows an early date of 27 August in 1999, other dates mainly in early to mid September). Regards, Brian Bainbridge Technical Officer Merri Creek Management Commiittee 2 Lee St, East Brunswick 3057 Ph. 9380 8199 |
