There is a package I have seen advertised (can't remember details),
but there are two good free online systems - Eremaea and Birdpedia. I
have used both and they are easy to use and give good reports - you
probably need to try both to see which meets your needs best.
Advantages of a PC package are that you do not need to be online and
you are the only one responsible for your data security - online
systems can be used from ANY PC but only with an internet connection
of course. You are relying on the host for your data security (but I
suspect they take better backups than most PC users) and of course
other people can see your sightings which adds to the body of
knowledge
