Driving from Canberra to Sydney earlier today, saw three apostle birds beside the Hume Highway about 5 km north of the verhicle checking station at Marulan - first time ever I had seen them on the Hume, but have never once travelled the Sturt without seeing them. Any guesses as to what is the attraction of these birds to roadside verges? Dead insects killed by cars, perhaps? And by the way, what was that bird that was calling and keeping me awake pre-dawn on Northbourne Avenue for the last two nights?
