In error, in a recent missive I said:

<Unfortunately, it seems to me that there is at best a remote association
between modern 'taxonomy' and 'sanity'. Onley & Scofield 1970 would
recognise twenty (20) albatross 'species' for Australia, Christidis & Boles
just ten (10).>

Onley & Scofield recognise 21 species of albatross world wide only 18 not 20, of which are claimed for Australia. The three we miss are northern Pacific species. Moreover, occurrence of two of the 18, Amsterdam Island and Tristan's Albatrosses, part of the Wandering group, have yet to be properly documented and assessed. They do not split Gibson's and Antipodean, N and S Buller's, Shy and White-capped Albatross. Double 2006 concurred with lumping the two former species-pairs but recommended splitting the latter.
