Hi all
I visited Warriewood Wetland on mid-Sunday morning for a walk with my
family. There seems to be a reasonable amount of water present at the
moment, which may be interesting when the waders start returning - certainly
the grassy areas looked much more snipe friendly than they have in recent
years.
Quite a few birds around, as we walked up into Irrawong Reserve. Best for me
were:
- 5 Royal Spoonbill feeding near the Katoa Close end of the board walk
- 1 Azure Kingfisher in the area just after the boardwalk
- 2 very concerned eastern Yellow Robins mobbing a Kookaburra at the Cabbage
Tree Palm grove in Irrawong Reserve (possibly nesting?) I couldn't see
anything else in the dense overhead trees that would concern them, although
they were not buzzing the Kookaburra
- an eye level Spotted Pardalote about 5 feet away just before the waterfall
- small party of Yellow Thornbill in the trees along the creek in the
wetland area
On the way, 4 Glossy Black-Cockatoos (2 then another 2) crossed over Mona
Vale Rd, just east of St Ives Showground
from south-north. 2 birds showed good orangey red panels in the tail and
jizz was too "stumpy" to be Yellow Tailed, which I have also seen in that
area.
Cheers
Tom Wilson
