Actually Dean, you are a bit out of date.
The split of Australian Painted Snipe (Rostratula australis) from the (Asian)
Painted Snipe (Rostratula benghalensis) has already been published, by Brett
Lane and Danny Rogers, years ago. This flowed from an AWSG conference in 1999 ?
the abstract of their presentation is in The Stilt 35: 63?64. The reference of
the paper itself is: Lane, B., & Rogers, D. 2000. ?The Australian Painted Snipe
Rostratula (benghalensis) australis: an endangered species?? The Stilt 36:
26?34.

cheers, Peter Lansley
