Hi all
On a weekend visit to Brisbane used the mangrove boardwalk at the
southern end of the botanical gardens several times and had some nice
sightings here. On Sat 4 Aug highlight was watching a pair of Striated
Herons nest-building. The nest is in a thick clump of mangrove leaves
and if it wasnt for the ?male's stick collecting activities would
definitely have gone unseen. The pair seem completely unphased by
passing human traffic, with the male approaching to within a metre of
the boardwalk during his collecting rounds at low tide.
Also seen in the mangroves here amongst others were Darter, several
Mangrove Gerygones, Brown Honeyeater, Southern Figbird, and a lone
Scarlet Honeyeater. On the evening of Sun 5 Aug there was a Bush Stone
Curlew calling from across the river in Southbank at about 6.30pm.
