Hi all,

I actually still use the name Little Falcon, which I think I prefer, despite
the bird being officially known as an Australian Hobby for most of my life.
This stems from when I birded with my dad as a kid. (In preference I may start
using the Latin name, Falco longipennis.)

Similarly I also often use the names Little Grebe, Spur-winged Plover,
Chestnut-breasted Shelduck, etc, which annoys or confuses some birders (some of
whom don't know the earlier names). For example I'll say "There's a Little
Falcon", and they'll respond with "Yes, it is small. Therefore it must be an
Australian Hobby!"

Cheers,

Tim Dolby
