Nothing further to report on the Eastern meets Pale-headed Rosella
report. However reminded me of some interesting sightings of la strange
parrot variety.

I was a fairly frequent visitor to the Budgewoi area on the NSW Central
Coast in the early 1980s and used to spot very brightly coloured
unfamiliar parrots there on the western shores of Lake Munmorah between
lake and the power station. They were predominantly olive to bright
green, with random splashes of red - cant locate my notes now for more
precise description - but one of the interesting features was the wide
variation in plumage. After much puzzlement they were reported to be
(according to a local resident) hybrid Red-rumped Parrots v Eastern
Rosellas. The plumage made sense to me based on this possible
combination, but I never saw any breeding activity to confirm this. I
did see pure Red-rumps and Eastern Rosellas in association with the
birds, especially around gardens and feeding tables in the suburban area
adjoining the power plant grounds closest to the lake shore. There were
many of these birds present over the 1980-1982 period and I have not
seen them again since. I looked again on several occasions in the late
80s and early 90s and only ever saw Eastern Rosellas in this area on
later visits - never another Red-rump or hybrid. I stopped looking for
them in the mid 1990s and have not visited this location again since
then.
