I have seen an Eastern Rosella with blue rather than white cheek patches. I
followed it for some time and the rest of the birds colouration appeared
normal. I wondered whether this was an Eastern/Crimson Rosella hybrid.
Although, another thought was that it had maybe been eating Blueberries, a
relatively common item in the Dandenong Ranges where I saw the bird!! hehe

Subject: [Birding-Aus] Rosella hybrid

My sister lives at Ravensbourne, Queensland and a regular visitor is a
rosella that could only be an Eastern Rosella/Pale Headed Rosella hybrid.
The most distinctive feature is the Eastern's red head (with a small white
patch) while the rest is generally Pale Headed but with stronger blue
shading.
The bird is clearly a wild one and gets around with the local Pale Heads.
Any other reports of this?
Cheers
