This morning (11th June 2007) I enjoyed a great walk with some birding on
the side around the Greystanes area (approx. 40km west of Sydney CBD). It
was a fairly clear and calm Monday morning unlike a couple of days ago in
Sydney.

I had 2 sightings of Swift Parrots that morning with one seen flying low
over Highland Rd and 4 more about a kilometre away along Cumberland Rd
(opposite the Greystanes High School and beside the Bike way).

Also along Highland Rd there were a couple of Mugga Ironbarks in full flower
attracting numerous White-plumed and New Holland Honeyeaters. The small
reserve there an abundance of birds including a Brown Goshawk (watched two
Rainbow Lorikeets land beside it and then the Brown Goshawk making a swift
attack on them), lots of Fan-tailed Cuckoos (I don't think I have ever seen
or heard as many before. They were just everywhere), several Eastern Yellow
Robins and Grey Shrike-thrushes, Eastern Spinebills, booth good numbers of
Spotted and Striated Pardalotes and a Spangled Drongo.

I also walked along the nearby bike track and saw loads of finches included
Double-barred Finches (50 plus) and many Red-browed Firetails, 12
Chestnut-breasted and 6 Nutmeg Mannikins, Goldfinches as well 2
Black-shouldered Kites and hearing a Scarlet Honeyeater, some Brown
Gerygones with the Yellow Thornbills and several Bar-shouldered Doves.

I later drove for a little while around the suburban streets of Greystanes
keeping my ears open for Swift Parrots where I saw the 4 more Swift Parrots
as above as well as 13 or more Musk Lorikeets in with numerous Rainbow
Lorikeets.
