Hi Birders,
My son Tim took me out to south Lake Cathie, near Port Macquarie on Saturday afternoon 2/6/07 1430-1530, where he had seen 7 Swift Parrots near Ocean Drive & Tallong Drive feeding in flowering Forest Red Gum on 15/5/07. We revisted the same site and in the area along Tallong Drive that follows the southern shoreline of Lake Cathie, Ocean Drive and the Laurieton Road, we saw 18+ Swift parrots along with many Scaly-breasted and Rainbow Lorikeets, a few Musk Lorikeets, many Noisy Friarbirds & Noisy Miners and a moderate number of Little Friarbirds all feeding in flowering Forest Red Gums. There are extendsive stands of flowering Swamp Mahogany nearby but no Swift Parrots were heard or seen there.

On Sunday 3/6/07 I visited some extensive stands of flowering Swamp Mahogany adjacent to the eastern side of Port Macquarie airport and again many Noisy Friarbirds, Rainbow & Scaly-breasted Lorikeets, lesser numbers of Yellow-faced & White-cheeked Honeyaters, but no Regent Honeyeaters or Swift Parrots.
