Great Horned Owls in Canada quite often attack small s which are been taken
for walks, I believe. Pet owners tend to be unamused, especially if the dog
been carried away is on a leash.

Are there any owls in Aus that would behave this way?

Eagle owl attacks close Pennine path

A footpath across Pennine moorland has been closed after a dog walker
needed hospital treatment following an attack by an eagle owl, the
biggest and rarest of Britain's six species of owl.
The rambler was raked by the talons of one of a pair, whose nest, one
of only two in England, is close to the right of way. The birds have
singled out dog walkers whose pets might threaten three young
fledglings. The path passes between the birds' nesting site and a rock
outcrop where the adults perch.
Lancashire county council staff put up warning signs on the path three
miles from the village of Dunsop Bridge, but have now decided on a
temporary walking ban. More than a dozen people have reported attacks
including a local farmer, who has welcomed birdwatchers on to his land.
Ornithological websites report other encounters.
