Hello Birding-Aus,
The Cumberland Bird Observers Club in Sydney has recently made a TV series
about birdwatching called "Let's Go Birdwatching".
This four-part series looks at birds and birdwatching throughout the greater
Sydney region. Each episode is themed around different types of birds
starting with backyard birds and moving on to waterbirds, seabirds and
finally bush birds.
The series is not a wildlife documentary but is more of an instructional
guide for beginners and anyone interested in birds. Each episode includes
excellent footage of many of Sydney's birds accompanied by information and
identification pointers.
There are segments about binoculars, telescopes, field guides, birdwatching
hints and tips plus a discussion about some of Sydney's birdwatching
hotspots. The show is hosted by the club's publicity officer Andrew Patrick
with many segments presented by Environmental Education Officer Aimee
Freimanis. There are also segments about attracting birds to your garden
presented by long-time birdscaper Dr Tony Saunders.
The program is being broadcast by TVS, Channel 31, Sydney's new community TV
station. The first episode is being broadcast at 7pm on Friday June 15. A
full schedule of times can be found at
http://www.cboc.org.au/letsgobirdwatching.html. Please tell all you friends,
relatives and workmates.
TVS is a free-to-air station which can be viewed in the greater Sydney
region. Some households, particularly those in valleys, may have reception
difficulties. You do not need a special TV to see TVS nor do you need pay TV
or a digital set-top box. Any old TV with a decent aerial should work. The
club is not able to advise people on how to tune their TV sets.
At present there are no DVDs nor video tapes available for sale and the show
is only being broadcast in Sydney, however these things may change in the
future.
Thank you
Andrew Patrick
Publicity Officer
