Hi Birders,
I made an early morning trip from Bateau Bay to a Swamp Mahogany site in the
Morisset Hospital Reserve this morning to be there at 700 hrs where Regent
Honeyeaters have been seen recently at that time. At 600 hrs in the dark
the Temp at Bateau Bay was 11 C. Out on the F4 Freeway the Temp had fell to
8.C, and arriving on site at 700 hrs, the temp had fallen to 5.C. I was
there to see the sun come up, plenty of Noisy Friarbirds, Red Wattlebirds,
Rainbow and Little Lorikeets, Yellow-faced & White-cheeked Honeyeaters,
single Brown Cuckoo-Doves and Fantailed Cuckoos, Golden Whistler & Yellow
Robin, Grey Fantails, Scrub-wrens and Variegated Fairy-wrens but alas, no
Regent Honeyeaters or Swift Parrots..
However returned home to Bateau Bay by 9 am, 4 Swift Parrots in the trees
above, 20+ at 1300 hrs feeding in Swamp Mahoganies in Lakin St between
Patstone and Helen Sts, and 20+ going to roost at 1615s in Blackbutts near
Murray St.
Alan Morris.
