Birders,
I'm also outraged at this. A slap on the wrist with a wet noodle might
have been worse.
In which case, are there any official channels to get outraged
through? Some sort of Ombudsman or other? We could start by finding
out their names and banning them from BirdingAus! Seriously though, is
there an appeals process for the community to voice their opinion?

From a sheer economic perspective, this shows that poachers can make a quick

What sort of deterant does current legislation provide?
Market value really should be attributed to any of these legislation
breaches, to, at the very least, deter people engaging in these activities
for profit.
Like the recent destruction of the Gwydir wetlands, what would be the market
value of the timber bulldozed???
Perhaps current legislation is "a threatening process" to endangered
species and habitats. Its certainly not offering much protection anyway.

Aviary bred Regent parrots retail at around $100 to $150 each currently
- so 40 would be worth up to $6,000. However their monetary value is
immaterial, they seem to have got off lightly.
