From a sheer economic perspective, this shows that poachers can make a quick $4,500 from "single counts of taking protected wildlife". What sort of deterant does current legislation provide? Market value really should be attributed to any of these legislation breaches, to, at the very least, deter people engaging in these activities for profit. Like the recent destruction of the Gwydir wetlands, what would be the market value of the timber bulldozed??? Perhaps current legislation is "a threatening process" to endangered species and habitats. Its certainly not offering much protection anyway.
