I went to a seminar by Dr Guido Parra, a post-doc in our school
recently.
>From what I remember, he studied Irrawaddy and Hump-backed Dolphins off
Townsville, so I think that you could expect them to be off Cairns as
well. He found both species in shallow water, around sea-grass beds.
In the talk he also indicated that the Australian form has been split
into a full (endemic) species. I think that the common name he used was
something like Stub-fin Dolphin, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm in Cairns at the moment and I may have seen one at the northern
end of the Esplanade this morning.
