As it was the Swift Parrot Survey weekend, I thought I better try looking
for them in my local patch at Prospect Reservoir (approx. 40km west of
Sydney CBD) where I have had them before a few years. Despite not seeing or
hearing any Swift Parrots, I still enjoyed the hour I spent there today
(20/5/07). In and around the Reservoir mainly viewed from the picnic area at
George Maunder Lookout, there were about 60 Hoary-headed and 80
Great-crested Grebe, an adult Brown Goshawk, a female Swamp Harrier, 6
Whistling Kites (all 6 seen at the same time), 4,000 or more Coot, a
Whiskered Tern, 300 Silver Gulls, 2 Bar-shouldered Doves, a few Golden
Whistlers, lots of migrating Yellow-faced and one or two Scarlet Honeyeaters
as well as 2 Spangled Drongos.
