Some years ago I attended a business conference on Malta and it was a very
depressing place for a birder - shotgun cartridges everywhere, very few
birds and the southern cliffs lined with shooting platforms to enable people
to shoot the incoming migrants!

Stephen Daly, a bird guide in Andalucia, has sent me the following:
"On the Mediterranean island of Malta there are 75 registered hunters with
firerarms certificates, per every square kilometre of the island. They
call
the spring migration "Our Harvest" and proclaim it as a right to shoot any
migrating birds that use Malta as a stopover on their journey north. It is
hardly surprising that fewer migrants reach their European breeding
grounds
and tragic to think that Malta has no breeding bird species whatsoever.
Please vote on an online Maltese poll in one of the web-sites of the
nationalist Maltese government in Malta. Click on the link below.
The question is in Maltese, and the translation is as follows:
Il-Gvern g(c)¤amel sew li g(c)¤alaq l-istaġun tal-kaċċa?
(Did the Government do well to close the spring hunting season?)
Iva - Yes
Le - No
Of course we all want to vote Iva/Yes.
Thanks to all, please help shift this to our aims, and it only takes a few
minutes

Thank you and do please pass this email on to your own friends."
You will find the question a little over halfway down the page in a box on
the right hand side, headed Opinjoni on a green background.
Please click "Iva", then "Wieġeb"
Thanks in advance, the more the better!!
