For what it's worth, Surfbirds also presents a list of the top listers - or of those that choose to share that information with Surfbirds.

http://www.surfbirds.com/cgi-bin/surfbirds/display.cgi?list=list1&lowVal=0&highVal=49

You'll see that many of the lists recorded there currently are way over the 6,100 referred to for Stuart Stokes, but 20+ years on, maybe his list is a lot bigger too.

I am presently reading 'All things reconsidered' a selection of essays
written by Roger Tory Peterson for Bird Watcher's Digest and edited by Bill
Thompson III. I was surprised to read in a discussion written in 1984 about
life lists, that an Australian, Stuart Stokes 'reportedly' had the biggest
list with 6125. That begs the question , who is Stuart Stokes?

Cheers

Alastair
