This morning I counted a flock of 22 pied cormorants on the wing over Woolwich Pier on Sydney Harbour, which is many more than I've seen in a single flock there before. There was also an unusually large flock of silver gulls, so obviously something tasty was happening in the water. The cormorants appeared to have a go at breaking up the flock of gulls, but I'm not sure if they were being aggressive or simply trying for the best airspace to keep an eye on whatever was happening in the water, which meant being where the gulls were.
