Hi Everyone,
I am delighted to report that the first 3 Swift Parrots for the season
reached Bateau Bay this afternoon at 1630 hrs. Conditions are so right for
Swift Parrots this year on the whole of Central Coast as the Swamp Mahogany
is flowering well and many more trees are yet to flower, the Spotted Gums
are budding up with some in flower, and the Forest Red Gum is also heavy in
bud. There are many Musk Lorikeets about now in the coastal suburbs of the
Central Coast and there have been many sightings of Little Lorikeets.
Hopefully it will be a good season for the Swift Parrots on the Coast.
Anne and I were listenening to Richard Glover on ABC 702 inside the house
but the front patio doors were open and we heard the unmistakeable call of
the Swiftiess, over the noise of the other Lorikeets and Noisy Miners. "Did
you here that I said?" "Yes!, that eeiieeiieei noise?" was the reply and so
we went out onto the Patio, and after a few moments, 3 birds took off from a
nearby Blackbutt and flew off over our heads.
Previous arrival dates have been 17/05/2002, 18/4/03, 14/5/04 but none in
2005 or 2006 at Bateau Bay.
