The release of birds not native to New South Wales is an offence under the
National Parks & Wildlife Act. All assistance should be given to NPWS(DEC)
to remove these birds, especially as it is a national park, as they are as
feral at Orange as are Common Mynas at Grafton. This is gross
irresponsibility and should be punished if the culprit is found. It is no
minor issue having feral birds released whether they be Australian or
foreign species. There are enough pressures already on the local fauna
species.
Were the birds obtained legally in Tasmania? Greg Clancy |
