It raises an interesting question, doesn't it? People can be
prosecuted for bringing in 'foreign' species from overseas, but does
that cover people smuggling "our" endemics from Tassie to the Mainland?
What if someone took a NSW Rock Warbler to WA? or even Vic? Would
that be a prosecutable offense? I would like it to be a prosecutable
offense for anyone aiding Indian Mynas to get here to Tassie, but Im
not sure it is!

Terry,
Do you know more details about the escaped Wattlebirds? Has the "guy"
been prosecuted? I do not know if our fauna or environmental laws cover
such situtions, but I am interested to know if they do and if action
has been taken, as this practice is certainly unacceptable.
The last thing we want now is for the birds to breed. Has Parks been
notified of these birds, so that they can be removed? (I am not wishing
to open a debate here, but I bet I will...)
Cheers, from windy North Stradbroke Island where all the migratory
waders seem to have pushed off, but where there are plenty of terns
around (including 5 Lesser Crested yesterday here at the local tide
high "roost" in Dunwich).
