Our local birdrace (about 30 teams x 3 persons)
has a the rule about "driven km´s". If 2 teams
find 40 species each the km reading tells who is
the winner. It generally does not stop car teams
to participate but it helps a little. The race is
a time limited event (6,5 hours) so a car is
still quite essential. There are bike teams too
but they cant make it to the sea or out of town
which shows in numbers seen(max ~27). Note 40
species is a great score as the race is run on
the last weekend of January and it sometimes can be -20 Celcius........

foot only section. It's a good idea, and hopefully the organizers for all
the states might consider making this the "premiere" event of the
