Thanks to those who have responded and taken time to
view the photos
(http://www.pbase.com/chezzyr/sanderling).

All responses have said Sanderling so far. Namely due
to the shape/length of bill and width of the white
wing-bar.

Martin OBrien/DSE sent me this information which you
may find of interest:

"....have just checked the Atlas of Victorian Wildlife
data for Sanderling and there is a SINGLE Phillip
Island record of the species from 1983 at Summerland
beach. The species is indeed rare in Victoria with
only 149 observations so far reported.

Birdos observing threatened or rare species are
encouraged to pass on their sightings to the Atlas of
Victorian Wildlife
or Birds
Australi(http://www.birdsaustralia.com.au/atlas/index.html)
wherever possible.

regards

Cheryl
