New Zealand query

Dear all,

I will be visiting South Island New Zealand for 2 weeks starting Saturday and 
am finalising some things. Any inputs would be appreciated:

1) Recommendations for the best field guide and where to find birds guide
2) Bird calls
3) New Zealand and South Island birding listservers to find out what is going 
on locally.
