There may be a problem with the B Aus server - this is a message Andrew

No, I didn't accidentally send anything without content. Something to
do with the birding-aus server as many other posters/messages are
suffering the same fate. This is what I wrote - you can attempt to
forward it back to birding-aus if you like, thanks!
Hi all,
Good news and bad news for those intending to twitch the Javan
Pond-Heron. After putting in an appearance late yesterday following a
major downpour (thanks to Sean Dooley for getting the message out),
the bird was in great form early this morning at dawn from about 6.45
am, feeding actively around the fresh water and looking healthy. At
one point the bird jumped into the top of a pandanus and sat with
its neck outstretched, dark monsoonal clouds behind but the sun
radiating over the bird.
Twelve hours later, the picture was far less pretty. A hot dry day
combined with a steady stream of trail-bikers and 4WDs had dried,
displaced and muddied much of the surface water and of course sent the
bird packing. The sorry tale was completed just before 7 pm when a
large 4WD hesitated before the only patch of water left for the bird,
ploughed in and promptly bogged itself over its axles. After digging
itself in deeply, one of the lads inside hopped out and sheepishly
asked some very unimpressed birders if we could help pull them out! We
declined and the job was left to a fisherman who was preparing to tow
them out when I left.
Hoping for some overnight rain and a quiet Sunday morning will bring
the bird back. More reports as they come to hand.
Cheers, Andrew
