Hi Fiona,
Probably the best on-line resource is Avibase,
http://www.bsc-eoc.org/avibase/avibase.jsp?pg=home&lang=EN
Recently I've been using http://www.worldtwitcher.se where you can enter
records in a database (and is not just restricted to birds)

Hi birders,
Can anyone recommend a computer database for the birds of the world that
is
VERY user-friendly. All my sitings are scattered between a variety of
guidebooks and hand written notes and MOST unmanageable/
Thanks,
Fiona Anderson
