Hi all,
Here's my top 5 spots for Victoria - sorry about not being able to count or
knowing how to define a 'site'.
1. Wyperfeld / Hattah / Murray Sunset - mallee specialists such as Malleefowl,
Mallee Emu-wren, Striated Grasswren, Red-lored and Gilbert's Whistler,
Black-eared Miner, Crested Bellbird, Shy Hylacola, Southern Scrub-Robin,
Chestnut Quail-thrush, Black-eared Cuckoo, woodswallows and wonderful mallee
parrots.
2. Croajingalong NP ? east coast birds such as Ground Parrot, Eastern
Bristlebird, Southern Emu-wren, Scarlet Honeyeater, White-bellied Sea-Eagle,
gerygone, Glossy Black-Cockatoo, Cicadabird, etc.
3. Greater Geelong (Bellarine, WTP etc)? waders, shorebirds, waterbirds, sea
birds and OBP.
4. Chiltern ? box-ironbark specialists such as Regent HE, Turquoise Parrot and
Swift Parrot also Black-chinned Honeyeater, Grey-crowned Babbler, Barking Owl,
White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike, Painted Button-quail, Square-tailed Kite etc
5. Little Desert ? Slender-billed Thornbill, Southern Scrub-Robin, Shy Hylacola
and Honeyeater such as Purple-gaped, Tawny-crowned, White-fronted HE etc.
6. Bendigo to Swan Hill (Whipstick to Terrick2 to Goschen) - Plains Wanderer,
Black Honeyeater, Spotted Nightjar, Purple-gaped Honeyeater, Chestnut-rumped
Hylacola etc.
7. Bass Strait ? for albatrosses (potential of nine), shearwaters and petrels
etc.
