Hi Laurie
The Vasse-Wonnerup Estuary system is being considered for nomination as an IBA because of the number of "Congregatory Waterbird" species it supports. It regularly supports well over the total waterbirds required (20,000) and additionally, 1% world population thresholds have been exceeded for Black-winged Stilt, Red-necked Avocet, Australasian Shelduck as well as Sharp-tailed and Curlew Sandpiper. If anyone is interested in assisting with the first survey which will take place on Sunday 11th March, please drop me a line for further details.
cheers
Peter Taylor
