Hi there,

I'm an Alice Springs resident and can confirm that the Channel Bills arrive around the middle of December/early January each year. Last year, they turned up in the first week of January. This year, the middle of December.I suspect that their arrival depends on rain in the Top End. You might note that a number of Central Australian Aboriginal languages contain words describing Channel Billed Cuckoos - so they've been coming here for a while.

I can also add that the bird life around the Centre at the moment is awesome and so are the widlflowers. However, the rain we had a month ago has also lead to an explosion in the number of flies!!

Cheers,

I arrived in Alice Springs on 17/1/07 in line with the five inches of rain. Since then there have been channel billed cuckoos around the town. I don't know if they were here previous to this, but Pizzey states they can turn up in Alice.
