A recent study, http://publish.csiro.au/paper/ZO04001.htm , observed the same thing - each parent cares exclusively for 1 fledgling. Maybe this behaviour is not consistent across Whipbird range or maybe its an abnormal context - such as 1 parent dead. Also just published from the same researchers is an explanation for why Whipbirds duet - essentially the female is warning other females to stay away from their mate: http://beheco.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/18/1/182?etoc Andrew =============================== www.birding-aus.org birding-aus.blogspot.com To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: =============================== |
