Hi Ian, it's one of those enormously fat palms that looks like a huge
pineapple. The Kookaburras are nesting in a hole in the trunk left by a
fallen out frond stalk. I can just see the parent's head when it's in
the hole. They access the nest from either a nearby eucalypt or from the
frond of a nearby Cocos palm.
How lucky am I that the birds have chosen to forsake the conservation
park a few hundred metres away and are feeding and nesting in a suburban
environment. Probably says something for the foodless state of the park
in these currently very dry conditions.
