Bob, Lewin's Rail are currently classified as 'Near threatened' in
Australia (The Action Plan for Australian Birds). They are also listed as
a threatened species under the Victorian Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act and
I can send you some Victorian information if required.
There's a bit of literature and internet information on the species. Check
