"Scalloped" sounds good to me. I did see some yellow wattle birds, one sat
still for a good look. I expected more noise from them though.
No more time left for looking at birds before I go back.

I came from the mainland originally, but I know the Eastern Rosellas we
have here in Tassie are a distinct race. I'd never got as far as
identifying what was distinct, except that they 'seemed' more yellow.
I'm sure I have read somewhere (can't recall where, now) exactly what
the precise racial differences are. Some of our Easterns are really
'brilliant', aren't they? I'd always thought of the pattern on their
backs as being 'scalloped' (black feathers with yellow edges).
Did you get to see the Yellow Wattlebirds? There should have been some
round the Domain. I watched a pair there a few weeks ago frantically
trying to keep the feeding regime up to speed for their young brood.
Also, did you hear about the Masked Owl which was located last weekend,
and visited by many local birders and others from further afield during
the week? Not sure how much time (or transport) you've got. It's not
far out of Hobart, but certainly more than walking distance.
