Did you mean Ruff (the male) not Reeve (the female). The bird that had
been present for the past 2 weeks at Pitt Town Lagoon is clearly a Ruff
(the male). When I first saw this bird it still showed the (yellowish)
warty-facial skin of a breeding male. Also it is about the same height
as a Marsh Sandpiper when I saw it side by side with that bird. A Reeve
in height would be in between the Marsh and a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper.
In the past I have seen a few Ruffs which some birdos have incorrectly
referred to as Reeves. I may have only seen one Reeve before.
Cheers!
Edwin

Subject: Pitt Town reeve
The reeve has now moved to the north west end of the lagoon along with
lots of sharp-tailed sandpipers and a marsh sandpiper. We arrived at
this part of the lagoon just a the wind got up and missed out on the
crakes that had been sighted there earlier in the morning. Also in
attendance were nutmeg mannikins.
