Then Bob, it can't have been a very good photo! Anyway, birds in photos don't call! There are excellent photos by Colin Rogers (who found it) and David Harper of almost every aspect of the bird, and others have a few which show some supplementary features. Amid many characters that declare that it is an American and not a Pacific Golden Plover there may be one ambiguous feature. ID is made easier because it is a juvenile. The bird can be difficult to find even though it has a strong attachment to one specific patch of that very extensive salt-works (even some locals passed it when I was there) and in any case only persons with permits are allowed entry.
