Hi all, Common Starling Sturnus vulgaris can often be seen hawking insects but I've only seen it in summer. This is obviously due to the fact that we have few (none?) airborne insects in winter here in the UK rendering the practice pointless. We have flying ants here which emerge in their millions over a few short days during the UK summer and Starlings can be seen hawking very high and in great numbers during this period.
