As this is a forum for debate etc, here is my two cents worth, sorry five
cents. I don't see how one can disregard one environment as less important
than an other, as they are all connected. Placing a Dam at Tillegra is
pushing the Earth's pendulum increasingly the wrong way. And will it be a
white elephant, yes. We still need rain. RAIN! We have stuffed around with
the waterways of this land for our benefit for far too long. For years the
Darling/Murray river system has been in crisis. And guess What IT is still
in Crisis. The Crisis is just bigger! There must be balance. A
positive/negative, black/white, ying/yang. Dr David Suzuki said it
beautifully at the Enmore Theatre. Australia is over populated for what the
land can sustain. He is right! Putting a dam in isn't going to solve the
water shortage. IT will just destroy an already existing and important
ecosystem. When do you think man will learn that you can't cheat nature? You
can't continue to abuse it and get away with it. The human species is no
more important than a butterfly. A butterfly is less arrogant and
destructive!! We are wiping out bird life etc at a fast fast rate.
Eventually we will just only have the Indian Myna living with us, but maybe
that's all we deserve. IF this makes me a "Greenie" then so be it.
