Before I emigrated to Australia in 1983, there had been many reports of
these parrots breeding in Richmond Park They now do very well feeding in
the back gardens of the surrounding suburbs, particularly on the old
fruit trees planted in the early 1900s that produce copious plums,
apples and pears each summer/autumn, which the humans don't harvest, and
then on the even more copious bird feeders the locals put out over winter.
Tom and Mandy Wilson wrote: They were also in Richmond Park in the mid-90's. I recall my surprise when walking there with my wife in 1994 and seeing/hearing a flock go over and thinking - "good grief - parrots!" I think my Aunt also has them around where she lives (Hastings) so they certainly have made inroads into south east England. Cheers Tom Wilson |
