greetings all
exciting news about the fig parrot - and even if it does turn out to be
coxen's, top work john in finding the blighters alive and well in SE Qld all
the
same.
excuse the late posting - on a v wet and windy sat morning we took a wrong
turn and ended up at delightful wellington pt at redland bay east of brisbane.
despite the weather there were a few birds about, notably pied oystercatchers
courting/fighting, the odd common tern and a few waders from red-capped
dotterels up to eastern curlews.
an unexpected highlight was the arrival of two beach stone curlews on a
sandbank just offshore, affording great views. i had seen these striking birds
only
once before, 25 years ago on nth stradbroke island.
they made my day.

ps: can we keep the throwaway generalisations down a bit please people. so
far this morning i have read a few - about americans and
journalists/subeditors.
i am one of the latter, and far from "messing up" reporters' stories, more
often than not we spare their blushes. although i can't speak for the errors
mentioned, i can tell you that for immediacy stories are often posted directly
on
newspaper websites BEFORE they go through the subediting process, hence the
errors.
