Where at Bowra did you see it Tim?
For example we saw alot of Trillers more out in the stony areas but
lots of Rufous Songlarks around the shearers quarters.
I'm with you on the size issue. It never ceases to puzzle me how
birds can change their apparent size depending on how far away they
are and also what else is around. I had always thought of Brown
Goshawks as a fairly small bird of prey but i had a close encounter
with a pair on the weekend and the female particularly seemed massive
at such close quarters!
Another thing i found at Bowra was that out in the stony country
there were fewer large birds and when you are seeing alot of Chats,
Robins, Thornbills etc, the Trillers seemed quite large and conspicuous.
For those still thinking Oriole have a look at Tom Tarrant's
excellent photo on ABID (link below)
http://www.aviceda.org/abid/search.php?
p=6&action=searchresult&keyword=oriole&pagesize=1
(Note dark and heavier bill and much heavier streaking all the way
down the breast. Younger birds that i have seen have had an even
muddier streaked appearance than Tom's photo)
This is great fun i reckon!

I think that this clinches it.
I apologise for the size, but that is very difficult to judge,
especially
when you are almost on top of the bird.

Dear Tim and All,
I have a couple of (poor quality) photos of a juvenile White Winged
Triller
that was raised by WIRES a few years ago. It has barring across the
crown,
white flanks and under tail coverts and a pinkish beak, it is
considerably
smaller than a Noisy Miner, but this is a very young bird. I think
it's a
WWT.
I'll put a copy on my very unfinished Web site. See below.
Cheers
Lynda

For those who like tough bird photos, (I do), there is a new
problem bird on
the BQ Web Site.
