Hi All,
Mike Carter rang from just off the Lacepede Islands, (Kimberley Coast, WA)
this afternoon with the following update. The annual trip to Ashmore Reef
organised by Kimberley Birdwatching sounds like a great success with some
exciting finds. So far they have not achieved the new bird for Australia
that has been the norm in recent years on this trip, but there have been
some standout sightings.

On West Island Ashmore Reef they had both an Asian Brown Flycatcher and a
Middendorff?s Grasshopper Warbler, while on both West and Middle Island they
had Oriental Reed Warbler. Surprisingly, after multiple sightings in recent
years, they did not record Arctic Warbler.

Seabird sightings also sound quite impressive with large numbers of
Matsudaira?s Storm Petrel and a few other bits and pieces. The trip has also
been a standout for cetacean sightings with at least 8 species recorded so
far.

Tomorrow they are on the Lacepedes before the run back into Broome. No doubt
Mike and George Swann will post a more detailed report when they return.

Regards,
Rohan Clarke
