Hi all,
I made in my last mail, several mistakes that where gladly corrected! The
Variable (don't know how I ended up with this one in my notebook)
Oystercatcher was indeed a Pied, sorry! And the babblers I recorded at
Monarto where indeed White-browed Babblers!
I recorded since my last posting the following (hopefully the typo's are now
done...):
15 oktober
At the Botanical Gardens in Darwin a nice Rufous Owl was present in the
rainforest area near the falls. A evening visit to the Darwin Sewage ponds
with Arthur & Sheryl Keates produced a nice Little Ringed Plover, and two
asian ssp of Little Egrets. Also here two Little Curlews.
17 October
A mangrove golden robin was present at the Jumping Crocodile boat ramp, and
a white-lined Honeyeater at Nourlangie Rock. In Pine Creek a flock of 20
Hooded Parrots was present in the water gardens.
18 October
A morning search around Pine Creek was fruitless, but despite that i
recorded Hooded Parrots at all spots (Edith Falls, Fergusson River,
Copperfield Dam and centre of Pine Creek). The rest of the day I searched
around the road to Waterfall Creek (Gumlom) and at Gumlom for White-throated
Grasswren. Saw none despite much effort. Recorded at Gumlom 20+ Banded Fruit
Doves (also at Yirmikmuk), Chestnut-quilled Rock-pigeon at Plum tree creek
and Partridge Pigeon.
19 October
Searched a large part of the day around Plum Tree Creek. Saw Chestnut-backed
Button Quail, Banded Fruit Dove, Chestnut-quilled Rock-pigeon, Sandstone
Shrike Thrush, White-lined Honeyeater, two sitting daylight Spotted
Nightjars and many more but sadly no White-throated Grasswren. At Pine Creek
watergardens again Hooded Parrots.
20 October
At the Pine Creek Cementry a flying over Australian Bustard, and some Hooded
Parrots in the village again. At Mataranka still the Red Goshawk on the
nest!
21 October
At Leica Creek north of Cape Crawford after a lot of trouble a single
Purple-crowned Fairy-wren between the Red-backed Fairy-wrens. Funny enough a
Gouldian Finch was present at the Little River crossing. At the waterbore 21
kms north of the Playford River a female and a young Yellow Chat where
present (in 2002 we had one at waterbore 39 just south of the Barkly Stock
Route crossing).
Between Camoonweal and Mt Isa a lone Flock Pigeon passed by and a Australian
Bustard was walking on the highway!
22 October
At Link Street in Mt Isa a Spinfexbird was present (as in 2002), and at Mica
Creek a fine Kalkadoon Grasswrens was observed.
In total this trip until now 401 species where seen! Since 7 september! Now
at Townsville!
Best Whishes,
Justin Jansen
