I have seen this near Goodmans Ford, some 100 Km W of Wollongong, while overlooking a large grassy river flat a flock of about 6 birds flew across to the other side of the area without being flushed, chattering away as they flew. The flock must stick together when moving from one feeding area to another as numbers often just appear in a good area then disappear just as suddenly. I wonder if they do large distances at night ?Cheers Chris

Hi All,

Was out earlier tonight at Kedron Brook Wetlands near the Brisbane Airport, and observed some very strange quail behaviour. Has anyone on the list seen
Brown Quail take off together, fly as a tight flock, and land together
before? I'm used to having them scatter in all directions, so this stood
out quite strongly. Also they were making odd chattering calls, another
thing I've never heard Brown Quail do in flight (and I've never heard them
make that particular call before).

Regards,
Chris

ps. a couple of Grass Owls made an appearance once the sun had fully set, as
did several million mozzies.
