Hi all,

You may recall the Northern Giant Petrel which was rescued at Seaford
recently. I heard that is was successfully rehabilitated at Phillip Island
and released. Apparently a film crew were there for the release and it may
appear tonight on the TV show Stateline, ABC 7.30pm on Victorian TV. Not
sure if it is shown in other states.

Cheers, Paul

Subject: Red-necked Phalarope, WTP Werribee

Folks,

Not the first time that I've gone to Werribee after a Phalarope has been
reported, but this time successful. Presumably the bird that has been
reported previously, in partial breeding plumage, in the first lagoon with
water in it on the left after crossing the ford over Little River north of
Paradise Road and turning right (ie heading downstream next to the river).
Consorting with three Sharp-tails that were roosting on an emergent rock,
but spent most of its time swimming and pecking almost frenetically at the
water surface. Compared to illustrations, the bird looked blotchily rather
than solid dark on the breast and seemed to have a more prominent white
eyebrow. Chestnut neck panels and golden bars on shoulders quite distinct.
81 other species seen including Collared Sparrowhawk, Peregrine Falcon,
Marsh Sandpiper, Pacific Golden Plovers (at Kirk Pt) & one Fairy Tern at The
Spit.

Dipped on a couple of species others had found during the morning (Glossy
Ibis, Australian Spotted Crake, for instance), but all in all a very
pleasant visit.

Regards,

    Jack
