Hi all,
Some recent birding news from south eastern deserts and Top End. Thanks
to Niven McCrie, Arthur and Sheryl Keats and the many station owners who
made this trip so good. Trip total was 350 species in 8500 km. One flat
tyre, one incredible sandstorm in Strzelecki Desert on 6 Sep (perhaps
southerly buster responsible for Antarctic Terns on KI) and lots of
patches of green in eastern Outback especially Cunnamulla to Wanaaring
and still lots of water and green in Top End following late wet season.
Freckled Duck (1) at Gum Swamp Forbes on 10 Sep.
Blue-billed Duck (2) at Bourke STW on 30 Aug.
Black-shouldered Kite (1) Cooper Creek 100 km NW Noccundra on 2 Sep and
(1) near Victoria River, NT on 17 Sep.
Spotted Harrier (1) 100 km S Noccundra, QLD on 3 Sep and (1) Central
Arnhem Rd, NT on 16 Sep.
Black-breasted Buzzard (2) Bowra Station, Cunnamulla on 1 Sep; (1) west
of Thargomindah on 2 Sep and (1) Strzelecki Crossing on 6 Sep.
Grey Goshawk (1) juvenile female grey morph with heavy rufous barring on
belly and spotting on chest and faint mesial throat smudge and orangeish
eyes near Darwin Hospital on 19 Sep was a fascinating bird-possibly a
hybrid with Brown Goshawk.

Grey Falcon (1) juvenile near Cunnamulla per BC on 1 Sep and (1) adult
near Wanaaring on 7 Sep.

Red-chested Button-quail (1) Central Arnhem Road on both 16-18 Sep

Chestnut Rail (1) Middle Arm on 18 Sep
Inland Dotterel (2) spotlit at night near Noccundra on 2 Sep.
Australian Pratincole (2-15) daily between Noccundra-Tibooburra and
Wanaaring.
Superb Parrot (30) near Gooloogong on 10 Sep
Hooded Parrot (1) male 50 km E Central Arnhem Road on 16 Sep.
Blue-winged Parrot (2) near Adelaide Gate, NSW on 4 Sep.
Grey Grasswren (2) near Adelaide Gate, NSW on 4 Sep.
Eyrean Grasswren (2) Bollards Lagoon, SA on 5 Sep.
Regent Honeyeater (3) near Glen Alice on 29 Aug.
Painted Honeyeater (1) Bowra Station, Cunnamulla on 31 Aug
