My first Koel of the season was heard calling from Emu Plains (foot of Blue Mountains, 65km west of Sydney) this morning. A lot of Red Wattlebirds are nesting in this area at the moment, so the arrival is timely. Checking my local finch flock today reveals all of the Goldfinches have now left and only the Red-browed Finches are left. No sign of any Sacred Kingfishers or CB Cuckoos here yet.
